The kokedama gives us the incredible opportunity to observe and appreciate plants through an artistic lens that highlights its’ naturally Zen aesthetic. From succulents to tropicals and everything in between, the kokedama can connect you to the earth under your feet, the community you live in, and most importantly, yourself.
Mister Kokedama is a business born out of the Covid-19 quarantine which gave us bouts of stir-craziness and an explosion of creative energy. What began as a unique and passionate past-time has blossomed into a one-of-a-kind homemade kokedama business that we are incredibly excited about! Our love for plants, paired with an adoration for research, persistent attentiveness, and relentless creativity has fueled this pursuit. We could not be more excited to share with you the outcome and teach you along the way!
At Mister Kokedama, we strive to raise environmental awareness, drive conversations concerning climate change and the consumption of the natural world, and ultimately inspire a love for nature. Our creation process results in zero waste with an end product you can feel environmentally good about. We support locally-owned nurseries, garden centers, and businesses in the Greater Baltimore area to drive a sense of purpose, amplify our voices, and positively impact the surrounding communities.
Kokedama, which translates to “moss ball,” is a Japanese form of plant art that originated in the Edo Period in Japan between the 1600s and the 1800s. They were originally created as an alternative to traditional bonsai plants, giving them the nickname “Poor Man’s Bonsai.” Kokedama was considered a cheaper alternative to the beloved art of Bonsai, which can cost from hundreds to thousands of dollars to maintain, even today.
